With the current pandemic there is a worldwide shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE). To keep our community healthy and safe, Michael Garron Hospital is issuing a challenge to all east end sewists to collectively make 1,000 masks a week. We want to see all east enders wearing a fabric mask when they need to be within six feet of other people, especially vulnerable populations and the elderly.
The East Toronto Community Steps Up
The East Toronto community is very closely connected to the Michal Garron Hospital – and the hospital has experienced an outpouring of donations of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Many local sewing circles – as well as individuals – are very excited about being able to contribute to this campaign.
King & Bay Joins In
The face masks will not be worn by health care workers who are required to wear certified masks. Rather they will be provided to:
- All approved visitors who enter Michael Garron Hospital
- All of our discharged patients as they reintegrate into the community
- Members of the broader east Toronto community to help prevent disease transmission
We're honoured to be part of a movement of individuals, organizations and businesses doing what they can during these unprecedented times.
